Awareness Raising Events

When we are no longer able to change a situation - we are challenged to change ourselves.

Without awareness, there is no understanding. Without understanding, there is no call to action. Raising awareness increases understanding, provides new insights. It is a long and continuous process that requires a lot of patience but it is the only way to change bad habits and mentalities. In every conservation project or environmental advocacy process I have been involved in, awareness raising played a key role. Longer-term projects show that it is possible to change the way people think and act. One of the best known examples that I am familiar with is to actually engage poachers to patrol the forests, seas and coasts. If you can convince them, it's a huge step forward. Organising World Environment or Biodiversity Days or Environmental Campaigns and engaging communities are also a lot of fun and fun is often the first way to get people on board!
